Current ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli made his AEW debut back at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in June, defeating Zack Sabre Jr as the stand-in for Bryan Danielson.
Claudio spent a decade as part of the WWE main roster, where he he captured the United States Championship and multiple tag team championships during his time on the roster.
Claudio was a part of many successful duos on the WWE roster, including with Jack Swagger, Sheamus and Shinsuke Nakamura, but his first taste of Tag Team Championship gold came alongside Tyson Kidd in 2015.
Months later, Kidd’s WWE career came to an unfortunate end due to an injury suffered in a dark match against Samoa Joe, and his former partner believes that people never got to see his true potential in the company.
Speaking on the Kurt Angle Show podcast, Claudio said about Kidd:
Oh, man, he’s amazing. He is so good. Unfortunately, people probably never saw his full potential. But I’m very happy that he’s using his genius now to help other people, and help make wrestling a better place for everybody. It was so fun teaming with him because it was one of those that we were on the same page from the second we stepped out of the curtain, even though we barely talked beforehand, and then we traveled together. We worked out together. We shared hotel rooms and locker rooms and everything. It just clicked and we are still really good friends. He is just such a student of the game. Yeah, he watches everything and he has a memory like nobody else he remembers stats, he remembers matches, moves, sequences, everything. It’s an absolute blast. It was an absolute blast being in the ring with him because it just clicked, we had to talk very little. If there was a thing that we were, we were always on the same page
Kidd (TJ Wilson) now works as a producer for WWE, where he is credited for his excellent work in the role, primarily by the women’s roster.
