CM Punk believed he was on the back foot after his explosive comments following AEW All Out 2022, according to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

After the pay-per-view event, where Punk became AEW World Champion, the Chicago-Made wrestler had explosive comments for Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Colt Cabana and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page.

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s reported that all sides involved in the post-All Out 2022 fight agree that Punk threw the first punch.

CM Punk’s motivation was reported to be that he he believed a fight was going to happen and punches would be thrown so he beat The Elite to the inevitable first punch.

It was believed by CM Punk and Ace Steel that Matt Jackson was going to throw the first punch, and it’s noted that Punk “sucker-punched” the former World Tag Team Champion.

The report also reiterates the claim that Ace Steel was concerned about protecting his wife, who was in the room and had a broken foot.

After using a chair as a weapon, which hit Nick Jackson in the eye, Steel was reportedly questioned by a producer as to why he escalated the fight with a weapon given his wife’s condition.

The Elite has been suspended and will remain so until the ongoing investigation is concluded.

CM Punk and Steel have also been removed from AEW TV, with speculation that they could be fired.
