Who pitched Jon Moxley vs. CM Punk for Dynamite instead of All Out?

Tonight on AEW Dynamite, CM Punk and Jon Moxley will go one on one to unify the AEW World and Interim World Championships. Before last week, it was under assumption that the match was taking place at AEW’s All Out Pay-Per-View on September 4th, but, that has changed. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has reported that CM Punk and Jon Moxley taking place on Dynamite was indeed pitched by Jon Moxley himself. You can read the full report below.

AEW Dynamite saw a shock main event made for Cleveland on August 24, as the planned All Out main event between Jon Moxley and CM Punk to unify the AEW World Titles was moved up a week and a half.

AEW sources indicated to Fightful that Jon Moxley was in favor of the move, and one source even indicated that it was his idea and pitch, and All Elite Wrestling went with it. The same source also said that “eventually CM Punk agreed to it.” We haven’t learned if this was connected to any of the reported issues with CM Punk last week. Grapsody’s Will Washington noted on the air that he’d heard there was an idea in play a few days before to increase ticket sales and add buzz to the Cleveland AEW show. Fightful has reached out to AEW officials, who did not respond when asked for comment on this story.

We’ve not been told of creative plans heading out of this match.
Fightful Select was told last week that the decision was not the original plan, and that “multiple plans” for AEW All Out had changed.

The interim Champion himself making the call is an interesting note and it should be even more interesting to see if the championship match gets a clean finish tonight and what could possibly come of the All Out main event which is just around the corner. Will CM Punk or Jon Moxley walk into Chicago as AEW World Champion? Tune into TBS tonight at 8/7c for AEW Dynamite to find out.
