Malakai Black got off to a huge start in AEW by feuding with Cody Rhodes. Black formed his own faction with Brody King and Buddy Matthews as well. But Black wasn’t in the best place, mental and physical health wise, and decided to take a break from pro wrestling.
Malakai Black took to Instagram on Sunday and provided an update on his future. Black confirmed he did ask for his release from AEW, noting that a combination of factors led him to a point where he felt demoralized by his life and career. Read the full post below.
As previously reported, AEW has given a conditional release to Malakai Black. His last televised appearance for the promotion took place at All Out. The House of Black competed in a trios tag team match against Sting, Darby Allin, and Miro. Black bid goodbye to the crowd after the match.
Black made an announcement in regards to his future after his match at Prestige Wrestling’s: Perseverance event last night in Pomona, California as well. “Please allow me a few weeks or months to recalibrate myself. This is not goodbye, and we will see each other very soon,” he said.
Black is taking a break from pro wrestling to focus on his mental health. He has given his years to the profession and that has taken a tremendous toll on his health. Here’s hoping he comes back stronger than ever.
